On Sunday, November 22, Goffstown Girl Scouts gathered with veterans and Boy Scouts, friends and family, to have a flag retirement ceremony. The ceremony was held at Camp Kettleford in Bedford, NH. A few of the troops in Goffstown do this annually, but this year the ceremony was even more special. The troops were approached by the Pease Greeters at Pease Air National Guard Base to cut out the fields of blue on the retired flags and then cut out the individual stars. The Pease Greeters are greeting every returning or outgoing service member with a packet: inside is a star (from a retired flag) and a poem to remind them that they are never forgotten.
There were girls involved in this ceremony from various age levels -- Daisies to Cadettes. All together the group retired 15 flags at the ceremony. These Girl Scouts also hope to go to Pease Air Force Base one day to help greet service members and present them with the stars they have collected.
